At the inquest on tlio vicliia.s ot' tlie tunnel accident at Pukem'a, the jury returned a verdict of " Accidental 3)o.ith," and tiddod the following rider : — " Tlint the jury rpcouiuientl to the Government that a special inspector for the Paikakariki section of the Wellington and Manawatu Railway be appointed to see that the safety of the men employed m the tunnels is properly secured, and that a copy of this rider be sent to the Minister of Mines." The Nelson Mail understands that the defalcations of the late Mr Bisley, of Motueka, so far as the Friendly Societies, for which he was acting as secretary and treasurer, are concerned, amount to about ;£BOO, the Oddfellows being effected to the extent ot about ±'390, and the Foresters to something over £400. His other liabilities, so far as are yet known, do not exceed i."200, while his assets are valued at ,£IOOO, so that really he cannot be said to have been insolvent. Deprecating the winding up of the Paluaerdton Soap and Candle Manufactory Company, the lnduxtrial Gazette observes : — " Such an industry properly managed, ought to have succeeded. The writer of " Farming Notes " m the Egmont Star says : — " A triend of mine, who is interested m stock, tells me he hears of a cure for lungworm, or horse, which has been found to be very effectual. It is roughly described as a method by which a barn filled with steam from a boiler, containing a mixture of lib Calvert's (No. 4) carbolic acid to each gallon of water m the boiler which generates the steam. The cure is said to be so effective that lambs which had to be carried to the shed, recovered After a good steaming. Mr M'Beth, Chief Postmaster here, insorms the Wanganui Herald that the letter-boxes m the guard's van will be. available to the public from yesterday. (Friday).
