(BY ELECTRIC TBLKGKAPH. — COPYRIGHT.") (SPECIAL TO UNITKI) PItKSS ASSOCIATION.) London, Jan. 22. Sir George Des Vceux, Governor of Fiji, will return to England m February and the Hon. J. I>. Tiwrston, C.M.G., Colonial Secretary of Fiji, who is at present on a visit to England, will return as soon as possible to administer the Government. The Committee of the German Ileich.-ttag have recommended tho subsidising of an African- Australian line of steamers. Mr Parnell, speaking at Cork, urged the laborers and tanners to pay no rent, and also urged tho protection of Irish industries. It is expected that the dividend m the Oriental Bank estate will be paid m a fortnight. It is believed that the Victorian Government claims against the Oriental Bank estate will be settled by tho payment of twenty shillings m the £, without interest. A third of the shares m Mr Eeginald Brett's Financial Company of Adelaide have been subscribed. Tho prospects of the company are encouraging. If a commission is appointed to consider German -British interests m the Pacific, the Hon. J. B. Thurston, C.M.G. will probably he appointed to represent England. It ia understood that the Hon. J. B. Thurston, Colonial Secretary of Fiji, will leave on his return to Fiji about the end of March. From the time Sir George Des Vceux, Governor of Fiji, leaves until the arrival of Mr Thurston, the affairs of the islands will be under the control of the Receiver- General, Dr W. MacGregor, C M.G. Mr Eobert Lamdale has joined the London Board of the London Chartered Bank. it is rumored that the conference respecting the Pacific will be held m London, and that it will lead to mutual intercourse between Germany and England respecting these islands.
