Manawatu County Council.

MEETING HELD ON THURSDAY

Presentr—Crs Thynne (chairman), McLennan, Gibson, Davis, Stewart, Sanson, and McKenzie. Cr Sanson drew attention to the necessity of a night nurse being provided at the Wanganui Hospital. He also stated that rumors existed that no diet of a suitable class for those were unable to take food of a strong character was provided. For himself, he could not understand the latter complaint, as his impression was that the doctor looked after such matters. He merely wished to direct the attention of the Council's delegate to the matter, and hoped that enquiries would be made into it. — This the Chairman promised to do, and the matter dropped. The dog tax was fixed at 5s per dog, and it was resolved that tenders be called for the collection of the same for the year The Engineer was instructed to employ labor to the extent of £20 in repairing the road between Feilding and Awahuri. Cr Sanson moved, "That the Chairman; and Crs McLennan and Sanson be a Committee to endeavor to obtain a loan on the most favorable terms to complete the tramway to Sanson ; such committee to have power to do all that may be necessary to carry put this resolution, and to report to the Council from time to time." The mover pointed out that £6000 would be enough to make the line to the township. The line would pay if it was taken to Sanson, instead of, as now, being worked at a loss. — Carried. Resolved, That notice be given to poundkeepers that their services will be terminated on the 18th February, and that applications be invited from persons willing to erect and keep pounds according to the terms of " The Impounding Act, 1884," at Sanson, Awahuri, Campbelltown, and Carnarvon. It was also resolved to call for applications from persons willing to act as ranger for the Oroua and Kawakawa Ridings. As only one tender for the supply of timber was received, it was no opened. Monday was fixed as the date for pound sales at all pounds within the jurisdiction of the County. For the formation of one and a half miles of tramway, Lean and Walsh's, tender for £53 5s was accepted for No. 1 contract, and Reid and Petersen's for Nos. 2 and 3 contracts, at £69 7s and £105 18s respectively.
