Funeral of the late Mrs Duncan.
[Foxt.ni. Paper. J The funeral of the late Mrs Duncan took place oil Friday nfternoon last, as announced m uur issue of that day. There was a large attendance of settlers to testify their rospect for the memory of the deceased lady, amongst those presen.t,boin« the Rev. j; Dou'll, Key. A M , Wright,. and several others. from distant parts of Manawatu, besides the whole of the principal settlers of the Foxton-dis-I tnct. For th(Vco'n'ven'ierico'of ; "tlios'e"who desired to return northwards by the mail train, part of the service 5 was conducted m tho Chinch, of -which the Rev. Mr Duucait is pastor.. The Roy. J; Dudcan (we behove at the wish of the deceased Jady) conducted the 'service. The seryico opened by the singing of the hymn, ■:'; '. .• ■■'/_ - <■ ■; , * ' " ForWver With the Lord*, Amen, so l*t it be," which the rev. gentleman explained -wasthe last hymn the departed had beea able to sing all through: :l 'He then read a number of appropriate ■ portions of Scripture, and suitably commented upbn them, pointing out the death taught les- . sous, pf, humility, mnd 'that^, men should not have .theii; chief treasare on earth, while the solemnity of a hoqse bf-mojar-rimg; with its • attendant sorrow's taught nobler and better ' lesßOh's. than a house of feasting. The congregation^ then sang " Rock of Ages; cleft for me, Let me hide myself m thee " the rev. gentleman ' explaining that this was selected because it was the last faun the departed one Had recited tlh-oueh being : unable to sing it, about ttirJ>hJrß before her death. Aftervthe Rev. A. M. Wright had engaged m prayer, the procession was reformed} Rudprbceeded to the Cemetery, where the Eev. Mr Duncan read 1h ConnthianS', XV.. Bonai's well-known hymn, • for the -fevered hiM&S ' Rest for the fevered brain " having been sung, the Rev. J. Doull engaged m. prayer, and -pronounded the JJenediction, and tb&_ grave closed over tte mortal remains^of o ho,throngh- w ,, ß9out a long life had assisted her husband m the trials and vicissitudes of a misstbnary's' life, arid -wh'6 7 endeared herself tp all' whb 'k^ew'her by her anostentatiou's'plety, 'Kindly feeling, and unchanging friendship. Several very ;beautif ul -wreaths were placed on the coffin as tributes of affection.
