Lord Wolseley received at hands of an Arab messenger a piece of paper signed "Gordon" and with the words Allright, December 14th," written upon it. The Mudir of Dongola has telegraphed stating that Mahdi had been repeatedly repulsed with heavy loss by General , Gordon's troops at Ouderman village, a - short distance to the south-west of Khartoum and had withdrawn to Jab Lira, two days journey to the southward. He also refused to lead an army againt Dongola. ot:- London, Jan. 8. t' Rumours which gained credence here are current to the effect that a conference of the Powers on the Egyptian question is about to take place at Pans.
