He was awarded first prize at the Wanganui Agricultural and Pastoral Show, as being the i horse best calculated to improve the breed of upstanding saddle horses j and subsequently won the Wauganui and Turakina hurdle races, m large fields and good company, besides having run second for several hurdle races and steeplechases under heavy weights. He is from the same dam as Malvina, winner of the Dunedin Cup, and many other important; races. His sire won the Wellington Cup and ran second for the Christchurch Derby and Great Autumn Handicap. Heis full brother to Lurline and Le Loup. The performauces of these animals m New Zealand and Australia need no coin" ment. Le Loup won the Canterbury J. C. Handicap and Cup m 18S0. Opera, grand dam of Morplieus, won the Canterbury Derby m 1864. Tarabourini was also from Opera, by Towton, and won amongst other raoes, the Canterbury J. C. Handicap aud Canterbury and Wellington Cups, besides performing successfully over hurdles. Salvage, by Castaway, ran second for the Wellington Cup m 1882, giving the winner a year and a pound. Won the Great Autumn Handicap at Christchurch, and ran second to Adamant for the Dunedin Cup giving the winner two years and twenty four pounds. Won the Auckland Cup and Free Handicap. Towton, imported, is the grand sire of Morpheus, and the sire of such noted performers as Golden Cloud, JVI aster Rowe, Misfortune. Tambourini, Lara, Purin, Korari, Atalanta, Ayucena, Cocksure, Mai ova, Lillipee, Stirabout, Songster, Lacenfeed, Ramarama, and Twitter. Morpheus is nearly full brother m blood to Darebin, admitted to be as brilliant a horse as ever trod the Australian turf.
