Barnes is a West Australian convict, who has been several times convicted m this colony. He is the man who committed the burglary at Government House during the Normanby Governship. Barnes made a full confession of his guilt. He says he broke into Slack's house and cut his throat while he was sleeping, and put the razor into Slack's hand while he was dying. The police made enquiries which resulted m the man's statement being to a large extent corroborated.
