Mr Service has received a telegram from the Agent-General m London con: firming the news published to-day by Eeuter's Agency regarding German annexation m New Guinea and Western Pacific. Mr Murray Smith adds that there is some hope of further negotiations taking place with reference to New Guinea, and that he" has written to Lord Derby calling attention to the.last three resolutions on subject passed by the Intercolonial Convention at Sydney. Mr Service sent telegrams to all the colonial governments inviting them to unite m protesting against the action of the German Government. Sydney, This Day. A case of small-pox appeared m the suburbs of Waterloo, and ten persons were consequently placed m quarantine. Brisbanf, This Day. Great dissatisfaction about the German protectorate of northern New Guinea and the neighboring islands was expressed m the Legislative Assembly yesterday by several members.
