The following may prove of interest to those who keep cows. The extract relates to animals with milk fever — and is furnished by the secretary of the Vermont State Dairyman's Association : — After the attack the only remedy which has been found tolerably sure is bleeding. I have never lost a case where bleeding could be done, but m advanced stages the blood is thick and dark and will not flow. In bleeding, cord the animal tightly well down toward the shoulder when the vein will fill above the cord and show distinctly. Over this the fleam should be held and given a sharp blow with a stick to make the opening into the vein. The bleeding should be copious, and the blood caught m some vessel so as to be sure how much is taken, as a little blood makes a great show if left to flow on the ground. Two-thirds of a common pailful, six or eight quarts, should be taken; if bled till stagger it will do no harm. The head should be showered with cold water or bags of ice applied to it. Move the bowels by physic — a drachm of calomel or a dose of Epsom salts. A divorce suit which promises to be of considerable interest to the sporting world will be heard during the present sittings m the High Court of Justice, m respect of a petition filed by Jem Mace, the expugilist, who, upon his return to this country after an absence m Australia and New Zealand, applied for a dissolution of his marriage with his wife on the ground of her alleged bigamous adultry. It is rumoured that a defence will be set up to the effect that the wife did not contract a second marriage until she had first satisfied herself that her husband was married at the time she was wedded to him, and that it was only upou his receiving authentic information of the death of his first wife that he took the necessary steps to institute the present proceedings for relief. The experience of Mr John Cross, a settler of Tainui, as an exporter of frozen sheep, is not a particularly happy one. Mr Cross informs us that m April last, he shipped 124 prime sheep m the s.s. Aorangi which reached the London Docks m first class condition. The carcases were landed, Mr Cross having paid insurance here through his agents, which insurance he understood would hold good until they left the freezing chambers at the docks where they were sold. For storage, the docks authorities charged Mr Cross 3s per carcase for only a few days, and no responsibility accepted. The singular part of the affair, according to Mr Cross, is that his advices from London state that the sheep which had been landed m prime condition, deteriorated m the shore freezing chamber to such an extent that the meat ouly realised about Id per lb. Singular to say, one of the same consignment was forwarded to the relatives of Mr Charles Gillespie (of Tinakori Road), m Cupar, Scotland, which place it reached m August last m splendid condition. The insurance people demurred to pay the insurance money, but subsequently they compounded with the importer's agent for about half the amount of the policy. On the account sales coming to hand, Mr Cross found that he had netted exactly 14s. HAMBURG TE/L SIMPLE. RELIABLE. EFFECTUAL. Hamburg Tea. A Sailor's Verdict. .Hamburg Tea.
