Perils of the Road.

(Napier Telegradh) A very narrow escape from an ngly accident occurred to the mail coach from Woodville to Talioraite on Tuesday. On the roof of the coach were two passengers, and one of these. Captain Setten of the Ship Pleiades, following' a seaman's instincts, Itept a sharp look-out a-head. v. [ In the course of the drive to Tahoraite, the captain spied ■ a cart coining down hill and meeting the coach, at full speed. He reported the matter to the driver (Jonas) who drove rapidly to reach a portion of the road where he could pull up on one side. It was now apparent; 1 ' that it was a case of bolt and a collision " was imminent. The captain went over the stern, and came a heavy cropper , on ; the road, and the other passenger made a clean jump into a clump pf^srubs. ■. The cart passed the coach at lightning speed, scarcely aii inch' ' between tho wheels of the two vehicles. A stride or two more and : the bolting horse swerved' ■ and jerked the man who was m the ' oart on to the road, where he was picked up m an insensible condition, having rev , ; ceived a se/ere cut on the head. The passengers m the coach rendered the poor fellow every assistance, carrying ... water m their hats to bathe his wound, ' : ■and were rewarded by bringing him back to his senses. The - cart went careering on to Woodville. '
