A Life Romance.

v ' There is now residing m Melbourne a gentleman who has become wealthy }>y dealings m :Buj»ar m Adeluide. He has, says the Melbourne correspondent of the Ararat Advertise?, two pretty and accomplished daughters. *&ome little, time ago a younjf gentleman friend arrived from New Zealand and took up liih quarters at the home of the gentleman referred to. He paid particular attention to the elder of the two young ladies/ and one night at a party given at. South Yarra, the consenting pater walked into the drawing-room with the New Zealander on his arm, and announced the engagement of the young people. Everything went well, and almost the preliminary tinkle of the marriage bells might have been heard, when the date ot a mayoral festival arrived . That night was ono of tears to the' betrothed. About half an hour after supper she sought her mother, and sobbingly informed; her that her affianced had done nothing but dance with her sister all night. Mamma remonstrated with the inconstant one, when at last the confession was wrung from him that while he was engaged to the elder daughter, he " loved the younger to ' distraction." As a gentleman he would ful til the matrimoniaj. compact h? had entered into but he; could nev-er forget sister. Paiufiil scenes endued, and lor days the house was plunged into : misejy, -übtil one morning- it was -fotmd the elder si«ter, with womanly devotion, had departed for Acelaide, leaving a letter 1 m which she sacrificed her love for her sister's sake. *
