' , At the Wellington R.M.. Court on Thursday, a girl named Elizabeth Alpe, alias Williams, ; was ]>laced m dock on a charge of haying stolen frqm Harriet . Geary, on the 14th November, one night' dress, ' one gold ring, one pair of gloves, a quantity of flowers, some ribbehs, ono silk body, one set of bends, one picture, and Is 6d m money; the wholes being worth £5. Accused, •/who wept bitterly, pleaded Guilty.! i^lrs Geary deposed that" the accused had boarded m her house for a few days last week, leaving on -Friday. The girl told her that she was eraployed at Hill's, the hatter's, and; leceived £1 ■• 5s jier week as wages. After she ceased to board at that house, witness found that the articles mentioned m the information had been stolen. Accused was further charged witb having stolen, on the 4th of the present month, one piece of silk, one piece of merino, .one 'piece of alpaca, one piece of flannel, and one chemise, valued at £6 6s, the property of Daniel Egan. She admitted the, charge. Chief-Deteetiye Browft stated : - that the cjirl, who was llie daughter of a; respectable resident had; been m the service of MrEgjvn She was m the habit of attending dancer, and had been keeping 1 bad company lately. His Worship sentenced her.to three months' imp'isonmeut on each charge, the sentences to run. concurrently.
