Deferred Payment Lands.
Oh October 30bh, Mr Smith asked the Minister of Lands, If, m view of (he great demand (hat at present exists m the Hawke'a Bay District for bush land, he will have .the Mabarahara Block, Seventy-Mile Bush, and the Tautane Block near Wainui, which are now being surveyed, thrown open for sale on the deferred payment system at as early a date as possible 1 There had been for some lime a great desire on the part of a number of persons to obtain land m the Seventy-Mile Bush and other parts of the Hawke's Bay District on the deferred-payment system, and they have been unable to obtain them. He hoped the Hon. the Minister of Lands would be able to see his way to have thes<e blocks thrown open for saleT^r—Mr Bal lance replied that the Maharahara Block was now being surveyed for sale, and Parliament was asked to vote £1900 for ihe purpose of road construction within it. Already about seven miles o( road-lines had l>een cleared of bush, and it was proposed to clear and partially form about nine miles more. The area to be opened was 10,000 acres; , Qf the Tautane .Reserve; about 20,000 , acres »rere npw being surveyed. Six . miles of j'oad had been made into the block, and further works were under consideration . Both blocks would be opened for settlement at the earliest possible time, after the survey' and road-making were suificietitly advanced.
