A writer m the Greymouth Star who took a trip., by the s.s.Grafton, yfhen she went .to Caswell Sound the other day, gives the following as one incident of the voyage. On reaching their destination the lead was' put dbwn, and having no other kind of grease but Nelson butter: handy this was used to ascertain what sort of bottom they could get. one of the newly engaged workmen was a raw Irishnan, who had curiously watched the heaving of the lead, but had not seen the greasing process. Taking up the heavy piece of metal he closely examined it, and touching something soft he smelt it and placed a portion on his tongue. Amazement was displayed on his countenance as he exclaimed amid the laughter of his companions: "Och, but this is a whunderp'hul counthry, ninety fathom of whather and buther at the bothamP
