The Salvation Army.

The Am/10-Xcto Zealandefs correspondent gives a few paticulars as to the progress and position ef the Army m this colony."" It is sixteen months since a detachment of the Array made th# first "attack," as it is called, m New Zealand, Dunedin being selected for the purpose. Up to February last Dunedin was the headquarters, but a removal was then made to Christchnrch, because of its more central situation, and because the peculiar services of the Army attracted more support here than m the southern city. During the sixteen months 27 stations have been opened, and 31 outposts, whatever that may mean. The various " barracks'" afford seating accomodation for 20,000 people. The Army comprises 1 major, 3 staff captains. S staff officers, 50 field officers, 155 sergeants, .183 bandsmen, and 5000 soldiers, m addition to which there are a large number of adherents not formally enrolled, and numerous honorary members. The headquarters building is a large double-fron-ted shed, with ample space for offices, printing-room, &c. At Auckland a barracks lias been. erected at a cost of ,£2,700, and m Wellington a spacious building has been purchased capable of holding 2,000 people. The War Cry has a circulation of 14,000 per week, and is sold at one penny per copy. So far as Christchurch is concerned, I do not think the Army services are nearly so well attended as they were some time ago. Enthusiasm seems to be cooling down ; still, the Army has unquestionably done goodieforming many people who seem to* have subsided into an utterly hopeless state of drunkenness and imv morality.
