[Correspondent of Patea Afctf]* \ Many peoplo will make the enquiry, when will the railway line be open, between Manutahi and yHawera r Well, to this I will just say ■C hriKt\ mas, of 1885, will be a thing of the past. Having watched the program .of the work,, since it started, and ;at the rate everything is going on, I ai^irive at the above conclusion. There ds anenormons .quantity of stuff y«fc # to come out of thcf big' catting. La^t' * nuay was- biio utM~^ay T B^^olitpUr since the works started, when .325 yeards of eath was removed. ! ; To do this there ar 35 men employed on the face, 3 men m the tunnel, 7 men driving and on the tiphead, 2 black*-' smiths and 1 carponter. The latter 3 r men attend also to other jobs. Then* aire also 7or 8 bdraeg employed to . haul the tiHickw. There is auothe* veryheavy cutting on Manntahi kid* of the bridge, which is as deep as ilia big cutting and is 6 cbaina long. This cannot be removed until the railway biidge is finished, which will not bo for 5 or 6 weeks yet, as this earth must all pass orov to OH m an* make up the embankment. /':•■
