Several new advertisements are unavoidably held ovar till to-morrow, when Messrs J. B. Hamilton's ami Bentley Bros* altered announcement will also appear. Mr A. Ferguson is advertising for lost horses. The Auckland Observer hai some rather trenchant comments on the recent libel case, which is pretty fully reported in its columns. The celebrated letter " More Light " is reproduced in full, and appears to have received a much more extended publicity than its writer or publisher ever dreamt of. Some of the gardens on the Rangitikei Lino have suffered considerably by the sharp frost the night before last. Mr Jno. Stevens' grand sire Diomedes is to visit Palmerston weekly during the season. The advertisement will appear in a few days. Draught horses graze with impunity on the footpaths of Sanson, without ap--1 prehension of the Ranger. Thiß also is the case in Palmerston. The Awahuri Bridge is open for traffic, but does not seem by any means secure for heavy loads. Eggs can now be purchased at Bulls at the rate of 6d per dozen. The bidding at the Bulls stock sale yesterday was rather dull, except in the item of beef for which there was keen competition. A detailed report will appear in to-morrow's issue. At 330 Mr Staite had concluded his case for the plaintiff in tho civil case at the District Court, and Mr Hnnkins began to address the Court for the defeuce. A notice from the Awahuri pound appears elsewhere. The risit of our collector to Ashurst is unavoidably postponed until to-morrow. Mr J. O. Evett, of Napier, has been appointed handicapper to the Wellington Jockey Club. One of the torpedo boats was taken for a spin at Wellington yesterday in charge of Captain Fairchild, with several Government officials on board. Every* thing worked smoothly and a speed of about 17 knots was attained. We omitted to mention that tho contract for the furnishing of the large new reading room in the Commercial Hotel was entrusted to Messrs Siiwuonds and Pegden, by whom it was satisfactorily carried out in every detail. A dividend of 2s 6d in the £ is payable in the estate of O. Berkfeld, of Foxton. Messrs Stevens and Gorton's stock sale at Feilding will take place on Friday week, 28th inst., commencing at 1 o'clock. There was great " chaffing" going on yesterday at the show at Bulls as to tho commercial quotations for character* now-a-days, as recently illustrated by judicial procedure.
