: News has been received here that the steamer m which Colonel Stewart was proceeding clown the Nile from Berber towards Abu Hamed struck a rock at the fifth cataract, and sank shortly^ afterwards. No lives ! were lost, but it is reported that Colonel Stewart and his party were on reaching shore attacked by a band of Bedouins and that the Colonel was killed. . The news requires confirmation.
