' =» ■;<■■ \ *; OiJRO, Oct. 3. ; Details regarding the recapture of Berber by the Egyptian troops under General Gordon are now to hand from uongola. Information arrived there from, Ambukol, a town on the Nile near old Dongola, the .Governor of which place reports as • follows :-—Genetal Gordon, with four steamers towing boats containing, troops, left Khartoum and proceeded down the N ile as far as Shendy, about midway between Khartoum and Berber. ' Finding the place deserted General Gordon proceeded to JBerber, which was found m the occupation of the rebels. Two steamers placed m the middle ■ of the Nile then bombarded Berber, ' the garrison and inhabitants of which ied after remoyiug their treasure. 1 The town was subsequently occupied by the JBgyptian troops. ; 'A •• ■•• • '' ! ■■'■■•■■..^- : ,oct,4. ; .
