Chuistchurch, Oct. 2. The criminal sessions of the Supreme Court open on Monday next. There are thirteen prisoners and nineteen cases. Sixty candidates liavo entered for the University examination m connection with Canterbury College, which will be held November 10th, 8 for M.A., 51 for 8.A., and 1 for L.L.B. GISBORNE, Oct. 2. Tenders were accepted last night by the directors of the Chosse Factory for building the factory. Altogether, the building, plant, and accessories will cost about 1/700. Since the sheep dipping regulations have been done away with, so far as this coast is coucerned, a large increase m the export of sheep has taken place. Nearly 1500 were suut away last month. Lambing has been very favorable, and shearing Ins commenced at several stations. A probability of members coming here has created a stir,: and they are certain to be well received if they should honor Poverty Bay with a vißit. Dunkdin, Oct. 2. The annual horse parade was held today. There was a splendid exhibition of Clydesdales. At the sale afterwards,, What's Wanted, an imported horse, brought 215 guineas, which was the highest price. : The Medical Association have written to the Benevolent Association Committee that an honorary medical serrice cannot lie undertaken, as they are of opinion . that it should be paid for. * Napier, Oct 2. Mr Harknr to-day offered for sale the Catholic Church property m Meanee m smnll sf-ctions. 300 acres realised about LI 5,000. The new church of St. Augustine was consecrated to-day, fifteen clergy taking part m the ceremony. A telegram from Wnipukuraii reports a serious shooting affray there. A man named Sylvester shot at Mr Chalmers, Railway Inspector, with a revolver, but missed him. Chalmerß closed, on his assailant, and several men going to his aid, Sylvester was secured and the revolver taken from him. 110 is now m custody. Messrs Greenwood and Son, Dentist Wangjnui, Registered under the Imperial Colonial Acts. Deutiptry m all its branches. Mr Greenwood brings with him nil the requisite apparatus for admiuititring Nitrous Oxide Gas for the painless extraction of tooth.— [advt.]
