An Agricaltural Show for Palmerston.
(TO THE EDITOR OP THE STANDARD.)
SiR,AI was: very pleased to read " A breeder's ■." letter m your. i*jue of yesterday* The advantages of such a gathering are too well- known to require much commont. It is a very healthful sign where such shows exist and are carried out with some decree of spirit. It attracts breeders from all quarters to ihe district, and enhances the price of stock accordingly. It encourages the settlers to breed good stock, and anyone knows what a difference m price there is between good and bad bred stock of any kind. The one pays its way, and is always saleable; while the oth^er eats more feed, does- little, or no good with it, and seldom or ever . pays either breeder, grazier, or butcher. People may say it takes money to hold a Show. Well, it takes money to' hold race meetings, and my opinion is race 1 * m an agricu'tiual district should (if settlers are their own friends) take a* w'cpnd place,. " Business before plea--Biuu" The one will give far more pleasure to three fourths of the people than the other ; and as regards the profit to all, both settlers and. trades, men, there, is no comparison. If there is enough spirit m Manawatu to make the start there is no fe»» of success, mid 1 for one will willingly be a subscriber.— l am, &c, D.L.S. Bangitiket Line, .. <' , . .- Sept. 25, 1884, \
