There were 360 tenders and the average price is ss/ Mr J. F.G»rUck, Agent-General for Queensland, is pressing; Lord Derby to appoint a Commissioner for New Guinea, and it is believed that Mr John Douglas, C.M.6., formerly Premier of Queensland, will be an applicant for the position. The attempt made by the Bank of Scotland to form a syndicate for the purpose of floating a loan for the Melbourne Tramway Company has not succeeded. N ■■.<■•, The Oriental Banking Company have appointed Mr D. H. Traill Manager, and the staff of the old bank m Melbourne, and Mr Balfour and the staff m Sydney, to carry on the business of the new bank m those cities; provided there is sufficient colonial business. The seamen who was rescued with them has been acquitted. Much sympathy is manifested for the accused by the public.
