Manawatu Standard (PUBLISHED DAILY.) The Oldest Daily Newspaper on the West Coast. FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 1884. SIR JULIUS YOGEL.

Probably the most damaging attack on a public man that has ever appeared m print, is an article from the -Home magazine, Money, referring to Sir Julius Vogel's connection tf ith the Consolidated Telephone Construction and Maintenance Company , of which he was a director. It is reproduced m the Wellington morning paper, and Will go a long way to detract from the Iciidoi attaching to the Colonial Treasurer m connection with his recent -Financial Statement. The article m- question, some extracts from which we .shall give to-morrow, iS a most sciiiihlng expose, and will do irretrievable damage to Sir Julius m this colony. We should not be surprised if its publication does not largely contribute to the downfall of the present Ministry. If only one-tenth what it alleges is true, Sir Julius must have been a party to proceedings little short of a gray* breach of trust. What explanation he has to offer to theindictment preferred against him remains to be seen ; but we are inclined to the opinion that successfully reputing ' the charges contained will require a display of more brilliant ability on his part than even his most ardent admirers give him credit for.
