Manawatu Road Board.

SPECIAL MEETING.

YESTERDAY.

Present : Messrs Snelson, (chair), Akers, Pratt, Mathieson. and Sly. The Clerk states -that m accordance with a resolution pas-ed at the last general meeting of the Board he had been to Feilding and interviewed the late rate collector of the county on the matter of certain rates transferred to the Manawafcu .Road Board as an asset ; bat which it subsequently transpired had l>een paid to the collector. . It appears that Mr Bray, junr. when transferring th'e unpaid rates to the Manawatu Higway Board made out a correct list of such to be forwarded but somehow this* list got mislaid at Peilding and the rate book m the meantime Whs sent to the clerk of the Board at Palmertttop, this book showed as owing rates to the amount of £103 9s 3d but which really had been paid and of course on the clerk applying for the same he was informed to that effect. The various sums making up this amount had beeu duly entered m the cash book by^Mr Bray and placed to the credit of the Taonui and Fitzherbert ridings t>ut were ommitted to be marked off . m the rate book and hence the error which arose. A deputation of Rangitikei Line settleiß waited on the Board iuclud ing Messrs McDowell, Richardson, A. and J. Russell, and other* re overflow of the Mongaone stream on tho vaiious properties adjoining and causing considerable damage. After discussing the mutter it was resolved on suggestion of Warden Sly that before giving any definite reply to the deputation the board's solicitor be communicated with, as to the powers of the board m reference to getting stream cleared of timber -by property owners. Captain A. H. Walker, representing Fitzherbert east road settlers waited on the Board. ; Resolved that, engineer be instruct ed to have road line cleared buc not to exceed an outlay of £8. .-. Resolved that application be made to the Government at once for grant under Road and Bridges Construction Act for works enumerated as special to construct, and rvpair damages done by the late floods. Unsolved that a petition be forwarded to Government, petitioning against certain sections m Filzhefbert, being alienated for the purpose of endowing Wellington College but that such land should be set apart as forming educational reserves. ; Resolved that the' Board petition Parliament for some money consideration m connection with the sale of section 443.
