(UNITED PKB9B ASSOCIATION.) AucKr.AND, Sept. 10. -John H. Field, printer, was charged at the Police Court to-day with publishiug printed papers not bearing his imprint. The case was dismissed on a technical point. An election m the Piako County has been invalidated through a person not properly appointed acting as Returning Officer. While scraping paint off the side of the steamer Triumph m thograving • dock, a man named Thomas Keichler was thrown off the staging, which canted and precipitated him thirty feet to the floor of the dock. Two others, Robinson and Onsly, wore also thrown off, but held on to the side of the vessel till rescued. Keichler was picked up m an un conscious state, and died m the hospital to-night. Nelson, Sept. 10. The Champion Copper Mining Company, has thirteen tons of copper sent down to-day which looks splendid. It will be shipped to Sydney to-morrow. Timaru, Sept, 10. Two men named Bcdnian (father and sou) were charged at Waimate to-day with having m their possession counterfeit coins with intent to utter the same. The case was ad - journed. The son is a letter carrier m the Post Office, and attempted to pass a sixpence smeared with gold paint for half a sovereign. A search warrant brought to light something like dies m Bedman's house. Napikk, Sept. 10. An old resident named Caldwcll to-day was found dead m his bed at Clive. At the inquest held, a verdict of death from natural causes was returned. DuNßDnr, Sept. 10. A Hst of twenty-three defaulting deferred-payment settleis was presented to the Land Board to-day, j The Board was m a quandary what to do m the cases, and adjourned consideration of them far three months. A four-roomed cottage occupied by Mr Leo Woodlands, situated at Woodlands, North East Valley, was burnt to the ground. None of the furniture was saved, and one of Mr Woodlands' children was with difficulty rescued from the flames, being so badly suffocated that it was some time before she came round. The cause of the fire is unknown, but it is supposed to have originated from some embers m the grate. The Florida, which sails to—morrow, takes 8636 frozen sheep.
