- Report of Stevens & Gorton's- stock sale at Palmerston North, "September Oth. We yarded over 160 head of cattle, but no sheep were forthcoming owing to recent floods. The bidding for steers was spirited, and resulted m .satisfactory prices being obtained, but for- female stock was duller than usual. We succeeded m quitting several lines at the following rates!: — 3 to 4 yeui- steer*, £4 6s 6d to £A JBs ; 2£ to 3-}' ear steers, £4 7s; 2-year steers* £3 6s ; yearlings, £K~Uls 6d to .£2 2a 6d ; store cows, £2 j calves and yearling steers, £1 1 la ; fat cow, £5 10s; yearling heifers, well bred, £1 12s 6d to £2 2s. The thoroughbred horse Castoff, and brood mares Peer-"" ess, Mabel, and. Fancy wen* offered, but as ( notice of their intended, sale was not given m time- for adverti*ement, they did hot draw the eompfetition which might otherwise have been expected. Mabel and Fancy were, however, sold after the sale.
