Adventure with a Bull.

[WangHiuii Herald.] An accident of a very serious nature happened to Mr Day, tailor, who was proceeding home by tfia River Bank on Friday evening. A bullock came nu him rather sudden* ly, and charging him,, knocked him down. The force of the charge was sufficient to break his Jeg, and the animal fell into a hollow about four yards away from where Day lay, and fortunately it could . not raise itself for some time, otherwise Day would probably have been gored to death. Mr W. Gibson, of r Arairioha, happened to be passing on foot at the time, and he carried Day into the Masonic Hotel, and not one moment too soon. The animal chased him up to the door of the hotel, J and as soon as he had placed the sufferer m a comfortable position, Mr Gibson procured a shot gun from Mr Suisted, and discharged the two barrels at the beast, which then went up tatho River Bank road. Mr Gibson then went for Dr Tripe, who jyas. .shortly m attendance on Day, and, 'the leg was set m a short time. Mr Gibson thought it would be as he was on foot, not to, be unarmed, and taking the gun withe him he started^ for home. On gettiug nearly opposite Inspector James' house' he was again confronted by the infuriated animal, and he. gave it the contents of both barrels. This caused 1 the< 'animal to w heel round, and makings a straight run for the bank it jumped into the river. ' A boat was procured, and Mr Suisted and one or tw o > 'others followed it up. After a;few shots, they got near enough to keep the head of the animal' wnderheatif the water, and it was then dragged ashore opposite the Steam Packet Hotel. A large crowd assembled ori'tih'e reclaimed land to see the beast, and' it was afterwards hacked to pieces by the Maoris, the skin and' hea>) being kept by the police for the identification of the animal. Enquires were made aft to the ownership, and it is believed that Mr Josenh ./Abbott, was* the owner.
