The Political Position.

[Otago Doily Times.] What is to follow? is the question m everybody's- mouth, and how long will it be before this game of Parliamentary skittles is brought to a close, and when is the House going to divide itself into parties instead of factions ? We are not without hope that a good Government will finally be evolved out of chaos, although it may not he the first one formed. The key to the situation is m Mr Ortuond's hands. The task of forming a Government will probably l>e instructed to Sir George Grey, but no Ministry formed either by him or under his influence has the remotest chance of lasting. Mr Ormond could command sufficient supporters on both sides for a Ministry which contained neither Major Atkinson nor Sir Julius Yogel. Such a Ministry would necessarily held office at Major Atkinson's pleasure, and to a large extent be the old Atkinson Ministry with new names. The best thing that could happen would be for Mr Ormond to take both into his Ministry along with Messrs Bryce, Mitchelson, Wakefield, and Larnach. Such a Ministry would give satisfaction and form a strong Government, which the colony so sadly wants. It m,ay look impossible at first sight, but we see no sufficient reason why it should not be formed. There are no rea.l differences m principle between the members, and though Sir Julius Yogel and Major Atkinson have nat been on the best of terms lately, we are confident bath, have suiflcient pat-

riotism to join hands if it is show the country can gain a satisfactory Government by their abandoning an antagonism more accidental than intentional. It is disappointing, after getting what is admitted to be the be.«t House for years, that its time should be wasted m a series of faction squabbles.
