The Gaustad Concert.
The Benefit Concert given to Pastor Gaustad last evening by the members of the Lutheran Church was well attended. A considerable portion of the audience were, of course, Scandinavians, there was, however, a good sprinkling of English residents present. Hia "Worahio the Mayor (G. M. Snelson, Esq.,) occupied the chair, and on the curtain rising punctually at 8 o'clock he briefly explained the nature of the entertainment and Htatcd the pleasure be experienced m taking the chair that evening. The - overture (piano,) was played by Mr Langkjer 8.M., m a masterly style and was received with well merited applause. A Danish hymn we* next pleasingly rendered by a chorus of female voices m unison, after which the chairman introduced Pastor ' Oaustad to the audience. The latter briefly stated the nature of his discourse, which he explained would be relative to Indian life and oustoma. A very interesting description as experienced by the lecturer of life m India and also the manners and customs of the Hindoostanees was poitrayed and frequently applauded by the audience. The second part of the programme was not gone through with as advertised. Mr Ronburg rendered a violin solo (organ ao-
companiment) with very good taste, and a duett between Miss Janson and Mr Langkjer was very pleasingly given. Mr Laugkjer sung a French song, playing his own accompaniment m excellent style, although apparently Buffering from a bad cold. A unanimous encore was accorded the conductor who sang m response an Fngliah song with good taste and expression. A poem composed for the occasion was r«cited by Miss Ronborg very well indeed and was received with loud applause. Pastor Gaustad having returned thanks to the chair and tlm conductot and singers for their services to the entertainment was brought to a close l»y the National Anthem.
