Wednesday, August 20. ■ ' * The' sales during the past fortnight passed off briskly, the bidding being qniet and good for all descriptions of stock. The latter maintain their improved values, with a ready market for all that offer. Store steers are wanted; and good useful cows, are inquired for. Beef has a tendency to harden. Some lines of bullocks have changed hands privately at £8 during the last few days, for forward delivering to the export trade, equal to 17s 6d the lOOlbs. Ido not anticipate any further rise m store cattle until the spring has well set m, when possibly a further advance of from 5s to 78 6d per head will be obtaiued. I have an order for 1000 lambs m wool, for which a good price will be given; The following are the quotations for stock during the fortnight. Cattle.— Fat bullocks for export, £7 Is to £8 ; cows, £4 to £5 ; 3-year-old steers, £4 to £4 6a ; 2-year-old, Steers, £2 16s to £2 17s 6d ; mixed yearlings and 2 year-old steers, £2 8s ; cows, £2 10s to 2 7s ; one pen well forward,, 2s 17s 6d ; weaners, 23s to 28s. Sheep. — Fat wethels to-day made 12s 9dto 13s 2d ; store ewes, 10s; mixed wethers and ewes, 10s to 10s 9d : breeding ewes, 8s 6d to 11s, according to quality ; old ewes, 3s 9,d to 4s 4d. Pigsi--A limited number came forward. Best baconers, 52s 6,d to 6Qs ; porkers, 15,s 6d to : 22s 6d f suckers, 5s \o 7s. Horses. — About a dozen head, made : iip'the sale, all of indifferent quality.
