(PUBLISHED DAILY.) The Oldest Daily Newspaper on the : West Coast. THRSDAY, AUGUST 21, 1884. DEFEAT OF THE MINISTRY.
The news published elsewhere of the defeat of the Ministry will have been anticipated, and will scarcely cause surprise. It is to be hoped that a capable and trustworthy Ministry will now be formed, whcih will command the confidence of Parliament and the country at large. We should imagine that the elements for a useful coalition Ministry exist m the present House, and should be brought together without much difficulty, under whose prudent administration the Colony might be expected to advance by satisfactory stages towards a desirable consummation of substantial progress and material prosperity. [By a special telegram to the Standard it will be seen that Mr Thompson, themover of the amendment, is to be sent for to form a Ministry, and that the House has adjourned till Tuesday.
