The Poultry and Canary Show m connection v/ith the* Navai Baud Industrial Exhibition to-day is considered the best ever held m Dunedin. There were over 200 "entries. As an outcome of it, it has becm resolved to hold an annual canary show, and a good sum was subscribed this afternoon as the nucleus of a prize fund. Mr Stout goes by special train to Timara to-night, and thence by ordinary m the moruiug td Chiistchurch.

Auckland, August 14. It is understood, m answer to communications from the New Ministry, owing to some legal informality m the permission given to open the tramways here, the tram cars w ill cease running after today till the hitch is settled at Wellington. In dealing with some bankruptcy cases m chambers this morning, Justice Gillies expressed an opinion that m an estate where the assets were trifling,' die debtor's^ solicitors should not be allowed full costs. The estate under his notice at the time could not pay a halfpenny m the pound ; and to grant the debtor's solicitor full costs would be. to sweep away more than one- third of the assets. Under the circumstances he thought five guineas quite sufficient. Proceedings are being instituted under the Divorce and Matrimonial Cau ses Act by 1A rs Josephine Anne Gibbons, for the purpose of obtaining 1 a judical separation from her husband Ebenezer Gibbons, timber . merchant, . at Onehnnga. The principal reason alleged for the action ,is continued cruelty on the part of .the respondent, one other assigned cause of complaint on her part being that bet husband has installed a female servant m her place m the household. There is no issue of the % marriage. The rejsponr dent denies all his wife's allegations and opposes her suit.
Christchurch, August 14. For want of a. quorum there was no meeting of the Southern -Cross Petroleum Company, but the chairman of directors made a statement showing that the amount of capital called up to be £24,800, or.jOs 4d on 4800 shnre3. The liabilities . amounted to £26,043, including paid up capital ; assets, i' 879 0; ordinary expenditure, £10,862. Shenewyboie'is down 4so feet.
