Mr Gordon Forlong writes to the Marton paper:— "One of the gentlemen must retire, or Mr. Stevens will head the poll." That is precisely what Mr Stevens is going to do, and for his return he may thank his friend of the Marton paper before anyone else m the Rangitikei district. They include beef, mixed cattle, two-year-old heifers, three-yoar-oldjsteers,fat wethers, , n ixed sheep, horses, etc. A few days ago (says the Marton paper) while Mr Broughton, of Bulls, I was driving Mrs Richaidson home m a i buggy the horse bolted near Parewanui, I and very soon the buggy was upset. Mrs [Richardson was hurt rather severely, but Mr Broup-hton escaped with & few )iuises. The buggy, which belonged to Ar Hay ward, was completely wrecked, iid had to be brought into Bulls on a ray. At a meeting of volunteers held at Wanganui on Saturday evening, the ■following resolution was passed : — p" That we request the council of the New Zealand Rifle Association to hold the next meeting m Wanganui. A notice from the returning officer of the Manawatu district is published m our advertising columns. Nominations /of candidates will take place atPalniers"ton on July 16, and a poll, if necessary, will take place on the 22nd July. The various polling places are mentioned m the advertisement. At a meeting of ratepayers of the Wanganui County Council, held Saturday last, a resolution that the Counties Act bo suspended m that county was carried unanimously. A resolution protest* ing against the Harbor Boards Rating Bill was also carried.
