Amos Burr at Feilding.
[Btar.J On Saturday night, m the Public Hal), Mr Amos Bmr addressed a moderate but veiy select audience, composed of electors of Ecilding". His Worship the Mayor occupied tlie chair, and; m a few wall-chosen reI marks, introduced the caudidate. Mr Burr b"gan his address by explaining toj the meeting tjiafc owing to the darkness of the night he had fallen into the canal-' which runs alongside of Kimbcil ton road. He was not hurt m any way, but as he was very wefc he craved tlie indulgence of his hearers fwhile he* sent the custodian of the hall tor a little brandy and port wine to warm. him. After the arrival of the needed refreshment, Mr Burr proceeded to give a short, but telling 1 history of each of the Prieraiers who had been for brief periods respective!y m charge of the "ship of State." The speaker was particularly severe on Sir William Fox. The reasons I 'which, led up. to the Parihaka cam--1 paign and the mistakes which were : inade by the Hon. Mr Brjco subsequently, through failing to carry out the policy inaugurated by Mr Burr, were briefly alluded to. As it was now ten o'clock it was determined that the meeting be now adjourned until Monday night, when Mr Burr went over much the same grounds as on the p"e\ ; ious evening:. He was frequently m term pted by the larrikins, -who had assembled m force with the evident intention of interrupting the meeting". When he mentioned the Parihaka campaign, three cheers :were called for the Parihuka Veterans^ whif.h were given with the wildest enthusiasm. Ac about this period flour balls began to fly about, and the meeting becaoib rather mixed, as Mr Burr came down from the stage, to remonstrate with tlie leaders of the larrikins. Mr Burr again made an attempt ;to continue his address, butultimsitely he saw the inntility of the task. A vote of thanks was parsed, and, with the customary compliment ro the Chairman, the electors " retired to their tents."
