Attempted Suicide;
(united press association.) _ Auckland, June 16. Cogan^who attempted suicide on Sahuday morning, was a Wairoa gum digger, and was buffering from a debauch. He is a Roman Catholic, hut had been attending some of the Salvation Army meetings, and had .got_tl\.ejcraze last night m the ravings that the Salvation Army were after ftiw The landlord of the boarding, house he stopped at, bearing Cogan ntdfinsr IBout irT'liia i room m the early morning, went up to see what he was doing-. He found Cogaa sitting on the bedside quite nude, wiihjn^lhrqat cut. He said, "Fro done it Mow j it, was better for me to have done it than to allow them (meaning the Salvation Army) to do it." There was another man sleeping, m the same 'rbbny and he went at once for Dv Hooper, who bound up the throat of the would-be-suicide, and then ,die~ discovered that Oogau had nieveral wounds m the lower parts of the stomach, and the man admitted that he slabbed himself several times, but had not succeeded m making the wounds fatal because of the knife being blunt.
