(UNITED PKESS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, June 9. The Auckland Rugby Union has telegraphed to Sydney, inviting the representative team to return this iway and play a match against Auckland. Tt is understood that Mrs Pattersou,the landlady of the Fitzmy Hotel, intends to proceed against Mr J. Newman, chairman of the City East Licensing Committee, for slander, for having said that young girls were harbored m her house. The creditors of Moore and Townsend, wine merchants, have resolved to prosecute them for fraudulent bankruptcy. Lynch, of the Coromandel, enters an action against the Coroniandel Steamboat Company claiming .£IOO damages for injuries received during a collision between the steamer Coromandel and a scow which occurred recently. The Mobson County Council have passed a resolution that the county, m connection with other counties north of Auckland, should ask Government for 200 acres for model farming on which to place a class of immigrants, expressly skilled m sericulture and the cultivation of sub tropical products, for the purpose of imparting knowledge to settlers as to the best mode of carrying on these industries j and that Government be petitioned for Mr Federlis' removal to the Survey Department m Auckland, m order that his knowledge and advice may be available. The Chairman of the Lyttelton Licensing Committee has given written notice to the Saxon Hotel and British Hotel to the effect that a j meeting of the committee, held at the Resident Magistrate's Court on the sth instant, it was decided to refuse to ro-license thos-e houses, on the ground that they were not required. At the Resident Magistrate's Court to-day, Margaret Georgp, licensee of the Heathente Arms Hotel, was charged with failing to provide accommodation, as required by the Licensing Act. The prosecutor deposed that he had applied for tea and a bed. and had been told by the barman th:«t there was no tea and no b<?d m the house. He admitted he had been <<enfc by Todhunter, of Vincent and Co 1 , brewers, who own the honee and cannot get possession. All the furniture was sold off recently. The case was dismissed with costs against the informant; the Magistrate saying the machinery of the court could not he. used for the furtherance of private ends. Dunedtn, June 9. Mr J. C. Brown, M.H.R. for Tuapeka, addressed his constitueuts at Lawrence, the central town of the district, on Saturday evening, and re ceived a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence. Ho propounded a scheme to rid the colony of centralism, suggesting the formation of three states, one with the capital at Dnnedin or Christchurch, the other (includa portion of the Middle Islund) with the capital at Wellington, and the third with the capital at Auckland. The man killed at Upper Taieri on the 27th ultimo was Jeremiah Dick son. The dray overturned, and Dickson was suffocated by a bale of rabbit skins falling on him. A fallen examination of a number of bankmpts was held before Judge Williamß to-day. His Honor, contrary to the practice of Judge Johnston, allowed the Assignee to appear without counsel. ! The statement of assets and liabilities m the insolvent estate of W. ami G. Turnbull and Co. was filed m the Official Assignee's offices to-day. The total liabilities are £62,721, the unsecured debts being £30,203, and secured .£33,5 A O. The securities are valued at .£87,164, and the total asets £51.372, the deliciency being £12,351, Grf/pputh, June 9. One of the lo,cal doctors reports several cases of diptheria at Brunncrson and Paroa.andrecommends that the schools at those places should bo closed for a few days for cleaning and fumigating. Tin; cold weather has broken, and rain is now falling.
