Dairy Factories.
(Saturday's Herald.)
Mr Bowron Inspector of dairies, returned from Hawcra [last eveniug. Mr Bowron has visited Jnglewood since leaving here, and we r.ndei stand from him that theie is every prospect of a butter factory being started m that distiict. As the majority of the residents are small farmers, who will milk their own cows, Mr Bowron is of opinion that 1 the factory will be a success; While m Hawera the Inspector visited a private cheese owned l>y two young men who have between them about 600 acre* of land. A Somerset cheesemaker has been engaged, and some really excellent cheese is being manufactured. The proprietors intend milking over 100 cows next season, when their output will be greatly increased, as at present they are milking only about 30 cows. We learn that one ton of cheese has been forwarded by the British King, to London, m order to test the market. An offer made of 5d per lb. all round was considered good enough, the- makers preferring to test the foreign market.
