Railway Returns.

Ti e Government railway returns for the four weeks ending 26ih April are published m the Gazette. For the North Island the revenue amounted to £28.319 8s lOd, and for the Middle la'.ind to £70,182 0s 4d, nmkiug a total lor the colony of £93,501 9s 2d. The expenditure was £14,340 9s 4d, and £34,518 19s 5d for the two islands respectively. The revenue fur the v North Island was £4SG4 7s 9d more, and for the Middle Island £327 9s 9d more limn for t'ne corresponding period last year. For the North Island the increase of expenditure was £1420 I3s; for the Middlo Island there was a decrease of £1602 4s 18« l. The total increase of mileage was for Ihe North Island i>s miles, and for the Middle Island 17 miles. There was a slight falling olfin the revenue from the NeUon and Pictou lines, but an increase m jho revenue of all the other principal lines, both m the North and Middle Islands.
