M. Snelson, whose critical condition is causing her frmily and faiends considerable anxiety. Reports are abroad that youg trout have been seen m the Manawatu liiver. Several of these fish have been shown to the Woodville Examiner which pronounces them certainly not trout. It is said that Mr Bryce has now determined, instead of proceeding criminally against Mr Rusden for the alleged libel contained m his history, to enter a civil action against him, claiming £10,000 damages. The Woodville paper complains that tolls levied on that route are a great handicap to stock travelling. Charges of 6d per head are levied at the two ferries, at 3d per head at the bridge. We remind our countiy readers of Mr Snelson's Fttzherbert Stock Sale next Saturday. Entries will be received until date of sale. The Orange Lodge held their monthly meeting last night. We are sorry to learn that Mr E. Jones lost a valuable draught horse the night before last through being run over by tho train. His Lordship the Bishop of Nelson delivered a very interesting lecture at Wauganui last Tuesday evening, under the auspices of the Young Men's Christian Association. A number of dissolving views were given, tiie most interesting of which were the Armenian gardens, Mount Hebron, and the Valley of Jordan. The views were from photographs, capitally executed, and added much to the interest of the lecture. At the funeral of the late Mrs Leary, yesterday, hymns appropriate to th« occasion were sung during the service m the Wesleyan Church, and as the coffin was leaving the building Handel's march was played. Among the chief mourners, besides the Messrs and Miss Leary, wore Mrs Giesen, sister, and Mr Austin, father of the deceased. There was a very large attendance of mourners on foot, m conveyances, and on horsesback. Serious charges of immorality havo been laid against the officers of the ship Crusader now m Auckland. Jerome, the New Zealand Blondin, has been arrested at ToArohaon a charge of larceny of two flags. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Independent Order of Rechabites, Southern Cross Thent, No. 40, will be held m the Good Templars' Hall this evening. We understand the Bishop of Nelson was a passenger by the down train from Wanganui yesterday evening and thruogh its detention was unable to lecture m Feilding as arranged. The lecture to have been given m Palmers.loiLtp -night is also postponed.
