(united press association.) (Per s.v. Waihora at Auckland.) Svdne*, May 29. Not much is heard of Ihe unemployed now. Daily gatherings take place, and i'ulniinatiou against the Government for their treatment of the unemployed. At the same time contractors are unable to obtain men. The prisoners concerned m the Rand wick prize fight case was tried yesterday, and found guilty. Luwson, the principal m the affair, was recommended to mercy, and was sentenced to a year's imprisonment. The others, for aiding and abetting, received various terms. The weather has been very cold, but tine. Beisbank. Mr Garriek, the new Agent-Gene-ral, is too unwell to leave, and his departure t has been indefinitely postponed. MELBOURNE. A libel action has been commenced by Mr Can- Boyd ngainst the secretary of the Cambridge Downs Pastoral Association. The damages are laid at £5000. Hanlan has been presented with an address by the Canadian residents of Victoria. The licensed victuallers, at their annaul meeting, severely criticised the report* of the Shops Commission, as to the employment of barmaids.
