The funeral of the late Mrs J. P. Leary took place this afternoon, and was very * largely attended. The Rev. Mr Bunn impressively conducted the religious services. The finder of a lost overcoat will obtain a reward on returning it to the Standard office. The finder of a lost parcel, addressed, will be rewarded on returning the same to the Clarendon Hotel. Mr Rochefort and his party started yesterday afternoon to explore the Oroua Valley route for the Central Railway from Feilding. An Auckland telegram states that strange disclesures were made at the meeting of Moore and Johnstons. Immediately after they filed, consignments of liquors were sent to favoured creditors. [ The It.M. Court uha to-morrow at 10 o'clock. A leng list has to bo gone through. Mr J. S. Baker, solicitor, advertises money to lend m various sums at a rate of interest varying from 7 to 8 per cent. The latest Gazette contains the list of succossful candidates for the junior and senior civil service examinations. No 11 on the list is the name of William Towers Holt, Wanganui, Palmerston North Public school 3£ ytars, Collegiate school Wanganui, 2 years. We regret to hear that Mr Patterson, of the Railway Department, is m a very critical state. He was attacked with a paralytic stroke last week, and his recovery is considered extremely doubtful. We are glad to hear that Dr Macintire's practice is rapidly increasing, and that he is well satisfied with his professional prospects. A report is being spread about m "Wanganui (says the Chronicle) that Mr Byrne had found allurial gold considerably nearer to Wanganui than was expected. A son of Mr Ward R.M. has been appointed second assistant clerk at the Wellington R.M. Court. According to the Feilding Star, Mr Cams Wilson, formerly curate of All Saints Church, at Pahnerston North, is at present m Feildhig. We hear hft is about to settle upon the estate formerly owned by Mr Harcourt at Kiwitea.
