Manawatu Standard (PUBLISHED DAILY.) The Oldest Daily Newspaper on the West Coast. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 4, 1884. EXTENSION OF BUSINESS.
We direct prominent attention to the special announcement of Messrs Palmerson & Scott, appearing elsewhere. For some time past the firm has been m communication with a view of establishing a branch agency m Tndia. The necessary arrangements have now been completed, and already many inquiries have been received from that distant land from residents anxious to exchange its arid soil and burning atmosphere for the salubrious climate of New Zealand. We are sanguine that this effort of Messr PAi,MEitsoN& Scott willbe crowned with success, and we look forward to the not distant day, when among our colonists may be numbered many of the former residents of "India's coral strand," who will gain a renewal of life and health by mioration to this Colony. Such a class of settlers would be a great acquisition to Manawatu, and we doubt if a more suitable or eligible locality for them could be found m the whole colony than this highly favoured district. All such persons will be men of capital, who will go m for improving their properties. We say all credit to Messrs Palmkuson & Scott for their push and enterprise m thus going further afield m search of clients, and to benefit the district. We trust that when vendors and desirable purchasers are thus brought together the result will be substantially advantageous as well to each as to the district at large.
