He is a married man with a family, and is just out from Home. Mr Cable, of the firm of Mills and Cable, of Wellington, is at present on a visit to Palmerston being en route for Patea. In the race for the big money at the Foxton Race Meeting, Lady Artist threw her rider (Smith, of Rangitikei) who received a very severe shaking. Lady Artist would up.doubtly have won the race had it not been for this accident. We understand Miss Blair, one of the assistant teachers m the Government school here, has received the appointment lately advertised m the Standard, of Mistress of the Infnnt division m the New Plymouth School, at a salary of £130 per annum. The 'Frisco Mail steamer arrived at Auckland yesterday. We (Stai') regret to learn that Mr Nannestad, of the firm of Richter, Nannestad, and Co., Trondjem, lost one of his thumbs on Saturday when working at the saw bench. He came to Feilding, where the wound was attended by Dr Johnston.
