The Late Duke Of Albany.
The London "correspondent of the Argus writes : —In the lamented Duke of Albany we have lost one of the few literary princes of which this country, or for that matter any other, has had to boast. So far as it is possible m these days for literature to be nourished by the .sun of royal favor, he nourished it, for liis purse and influence were always ready to aid. those institutions which are established for its benefit. His liking: for men of letters was very marked, ami m his association with them theie was never the least trace for patronage. His personal friends were, for the most parr, chosen for their merit rather than for any attributes of the courtier, ami his loss will be felt by many m a manner very ditferent from that m which the intelligence of royal demises is generally received. He hail no difficulty m the assumption of his proper dignity, but he will be longest and hesi remembered for his culture, his kindness, and for a hospitality that was as genuine as it was gracidus.
