The Homeward mails via Suez and Brindisi per Orient steamship Sorato from Melbourne, April 18, were delivered here yester«lay. Both Houses of Parliament adjourned last evening for Whitsuntide holidays. Cairo, May 27. It has transpired that tho Khedive addressed a letter to Her Majesty Queen Victoria, reqnesting that Baker Pasha, Colonel Valentine Baker, may be reinstated to the position, m the British army which he previously held. Teiegrams have been received from the Governor of Dongola statute: that he has defeated the rebels m tho neighbourhood of Delbeh and recaptured that town.
