Education Board.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Wanganui Education Board was held yesterday. There were present — Messrs Watt, M.H,R. (m the chair), Bates, Taplin, Sanson, Ross, Bridge, and Carson. The inspector was also m attendance. Appointments Committee. — The business was transacted m committee, and tho minutes were read and contirmed as follows : — Letler from Stoney Creek recommending the appointment of Miss Jessie Edwards as pupil teacher. Resolved that Mks Edwards be appointed temporarily, subject to the approval of the Inspec tor. — Letter from Mr G. S. Evans, of Moutoa, applying to be retained as teacher at that school. Agreed to, provided that he pass a preliminary examination. — Letter from Palmerston Committee, re assistant teacher at Terrace End. Matter left to Inspector to appoint two pupil teachers. Letter from Miss Leach, assistant, teacher at Foxton, resigning her position. Accepted ; advertisements to be inserted for another teacher. — Letter from Miss J. Bartholomew, cadet, Feilding, resigning. Resignation accepted. — Letter from Miss Mary Goodison, FeiMing, applying for a testimonial. Agreed to. — Resignation of Sir W. Fox. — Sir Wm. Fox wrote resigning his position on the Board as he wa^ leaving the colony. — Resignation accepted with regret. Feilding. — Letter from Feilding re Mrs Redman, stating that the Committee were of opinion that the headmasier, Mr Do wling", should be transferred to another school, and further stating that the case was one m which the local committee might have been consulted.— Letter enclosed from Mrs Redman, stating thecircumstances under winch she had been absent for one day. — Letter from Mr Dowling, stating that he had attended a meeting of the Committee at their request with regard to charges made against him by Mrs Redman. The Committee went through the whole of the entries m the log-book dealing with Mrs Redman, and the chairman had agreed before he (Mr Dowling) left that there was no charge for him to answer. He had been surprised to see m the papers later on thattheCommiltee had passed the above resolution, and he demanded an enquiry. — Lotter read from Mr E. H. Wright referring to the matter. Mr Bridge moved, thst the Boai'd see no reason why Mr Dowling should be removed from the Feilding School, as he has, done nothing but his duty m entering absences m the log-book. That the Inspector endeavour to arrange for the removal of Mrs Redman to Halcombe, and Miss Scolfield the Feilding. Seconded by Mr Taplin, and carried. — Upper Taonui. — Application to have the roof of the school lined. — Refused, ponding information re Building Grant. Stanway. — Letter from Committee, enclosing account for repairs to chimney destroyed, £2 12s 6d. — Passed, but the Committee to be informed that the Board does not usually pay unauthorised account?. Taonui School. — The report on proposed alteration of the names of certain schools was read, suggesting that the names of several schools be altered to avoid one conflicting with another. The report was referred back to have the names altered so as to only leave one Taonui. Palmerston. — Letter read m reference to Terrace End School being held m Deards' Hall, and enclosing an account for carpenter work done to make the building suitable for the accommodation of the children. The lease of the hall from Mr Joseph Nathan was also read. — The account was passed, and it was resolved to forward wall-sheets and other requisite articles.
