MEN WASHED OVERBOARD.

(united press association.) New Plymouth, May 26. The schooner Waireka, on Wednesday encountered a heavy gale. When before the wind, shipped several heavy seas, the wheel being lashed. All hands took to the rigging except Henry Wade, ordinary seaman, who was washed overboard. .Nothing could possibly be done to save him although the poor fellow was seen swirnnimg for about ten minutes, when he was lost sight of. Auckland, May 26. The master of the schooner Marmion, telegraphs that the mate of the vessel, John "Edward Dale, was lost overboard in a gale off Cape Egmonfc on Wednesday last. Wellington, May 26. The passage of the barque Claribel was a very rough one. During a heavy sea the ship gave a lurch, and the captain ( Pederson) who was at the wheel, had his leg jammed, the result being thai his thigh was broken. He has now recovered.
