West Coast Railway.

[Post.]

Some important and mutually advantageous arrangements have been entered into between* the Government and the Wellington-JVTanawatu Railway Company, relative to the position of their respective lines at the Wellington terminus. The Government line will be vemovtd from the Hutt road at the eity end and laid down on the company's line and will run parallel to it, occupying the inside position. This will enable the Hutt road to be widened from its present width— 24 feet— to that of 66 feet, and besides affording the company a much better approach to its rficlamation, which was previously unapproachable except by crossing the Government railway, a course to which the Government are understood to have been somewhat averse, will at the same time prove of advantage to the Government by enabling them to dispense with the sharp curve at Pi pi tea station. To accomplish this, it will be necessary to reclaim a small triangular piece of land close to the baths, and the work will be under taken by the company. It is contemplated to abolish the Pipitea station altogether, and make the Government terminus at a point on Thorndon Quay, near the junction of Mnlqrave and Sydney-streets. This will provide frepr access to the Railway Wharf and its neighbourhood, which cannot fail to be a great boon. The railway company is ahnut to oall for tenders for building erection-sheds on its reclaimed land for the purpose of constructing the necessary trucks and so forth, and we notice that the other arrangements indicated are now being carried into effect.
