Fire at Patea.

Incendiarism Suspected. (united press association.) Patea, May 20. A fire broke out about 8.15 last night m the furniture warehouse occupied by Messrs Ludberg & Co. The fire was with some difficulty got tinder. All the stock was removed, but a quantity of patterns, tools, and ■work m hand were destroyed. Fortunately thcie was little wind, else the whole.block of which the building was the corner would have been destroyed, especially as there is no organised fire brigade m the place, and the manual engine and hove were defective through disuse. There is no clue to the origin of the fire, which took place m the upper storey when all the hands were absent. The case is looked upon as suspicious, and the police have arrested Lundberg. Insurance.— £600 on the stock m the Colonial j and insurance on the building, which belongs to Mr Anderson, of Wanganui, is not known. Lundberg was brought up this morning and remanded.
