'Some little difficulty occurred today m connection with the tirst meeting m bankruptcy before the Official Assignee and his deputy m this dis. trict. The debtor was Henry Pinkierl, who has lost heavily m a sawmill speculation. The : public ?/ took some interest m the proceedings, arid- were expected to be lively, there ' r being- tuany contending interests. •Before proceedings commenced, the Deputy Assignee intimated that the meeting would -be private, and -•"-- asked the public to withdraw. One of them, however, stated that he had die authority of the Judge for remaining. And remarked, that his Honor said thai the proceedings should be open to the public. As,r those present declined to move, the court adjourned to the office of the Deputy Assignee. The only resolution passed was to ask the inspector of the Bank of Australasia to agree to an offer of 10s m the pound. The bankrupt's statement shows his assets : to be £8507, and his liabilities, .£10,464. The deputy Assignee's statements showed the assets to be £7142, and tho liabilities £10,114$ :. the deficiency being £3332.
